Mission Statement

Our mission statement

The London Network of Nurses and Midwives Homelessness group supports nurses, midwives, health visitors, doctors, allied professionals, health support workers, peer advocates and others involved in the delivery of healthcare to people experiencing homelessness in London. People experiencing homelessness frequently have complex health and care needs, and are transient across London, and need high quality, expert health care delivery.

The organisation aims to achieve the best possible quality healthcare by networking, supporting staff, sharing best practice, and providing high quality training for those involved in health care for this group. The organisation also campaigns to raise awareness of the health inequalities associated with homelessness, and to generate positive practice and policy changes to reduce this health inequity.

For the purposes of this organisation ‘homelessness’ covers all definitions of homelessness – rough sleeping, sofa surfing, people living in homeless hostels, home office accommodation, bail hostels, refuges, temporary accommodation, and bed and breakfast hostels, and people at imminent risk of eviction etc. Network members work with people from both the UK and abroad, including clients who have No Recourse to Public Funds.

  • To improve healthcare for people experiencing homelessness, and other marginalized groups
  • Share best practice within inclusion healthcare
  • Support nurses, midwives and health visitors and other professionals to advocate for their patients, even when this is challenging
  • Challenge service cuts and unhelpful policies when this is appropriate
  • Ensure the voices of nurse, midwives and health visitors and other professionals working on the front line in inclusion healthcare in London get their voices heard at a policy level
  • Promote the retention of nurses, midwives and health visitors and other professionals within inclusion healthcare by providing a network and support structure
